The Hilton Waikoloa Village is a destination in its own right — 62 oceanfront acres with its own trams, canal boats, and a saltwater lagoon. It's easy to spend a whole week without leaving the property, which is exactly why guests staying here tell us the Circle Island Tour was the day their trip finally clicked: it's the one day you see the other Big Island, the one with molten rock, rainforest waterfalls, and black sand.
We pick up at the Hilton's main porte cochère between 7:00 and 7:15 am. Because the resort is so large, give yourself a few extra minutes to get from your tower to the main lobby — the internal tram is charming but not fast at 6:50 in the morning. Your guide calls the night before to confirm your exact time, so you'll never be guessing.
Why the early start works in your favor
Waikoloa sits on the sunny, dry northwest side of the island — the leeward side. That's wonderful for beach weather, but it also means you're about as far from Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park as it's possible to stay. Our 7:00 am departure turns that into an advantage: you roll south along the Kona coast while the light is still golden, reach the island's south end ahead of the day-tour crowds, and arrive at the volcano with time to actually explore rather than glance and go.
The first leg from the Hilton runs down the Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway toward Kailua-Kona — roughly 35 to 40 minutes of lava-field coastline — where we complete pickups before beginning the climb south. From there the day unfolds in a full loop: Punaluʻu's black sand beach (and, with luck, resting sea turtles), Volcanoes National Park, Hilo town, and Akaka Falls, returning across the island in the evening.

Where exactly at Hilton Waikoloa Village do you pick up?
At the main lobby porte cochère. The resort is large, so allow 10–15 minutes to get there from the Lagoon or Ocean towers, especially if you're relying on the internal tram. Your guide confirms the exact time by phone the night before.
How early is the pickup from the Hilton?
Between 7:00 and 7:15 am. Waikoloa is the farthest corridor from the volcano, so the early start is what lets you see the whole island in one day without feeling rushed.
Will we be back in time for dinner reservations at the resort?
The tour runs about 10 hours door to door, so a 7:00 am pickup typically has you back at the Hilton in the early evening. A 7:30–8:00 pm reservation is a safe bet.
Can guests at nearby Waikoloa condos join the same pickup?
If your rental is outside our pickup corridor, meet us at Queens' Marketplace on Waikoloa Beach Drive — it's about five minutes from the Hilton and has easy parking.
